We believe that every child deserves the support they need to make strong progress and to feel confident and successful in their learning. Sometimes, children benefit from additional targeted support, known as an intervention, to help them develop a particular skill or overcome a barrier to learning.
If a child is finding a specific aspect of learning challenging, the class teacher, in consultation with the SENDCo, may decide to introduce an intervention to address that need. Interventions might focus on areas such as speech and language, reading, fine or gross motor skills, social communication, or emotional regulation.
All interventions are carefully planned, delivered by trained staff, and monitored closely. Their impact is regularly reviewed to ensure that they are helping children to make measurable progress. If an intervention is not achieving the desired outcome, adjustments are made swiftly to better meet the child’s needs.
If your child begins to access multiple interventions or requires more ongoing support, we will meet with you to discuss this and may create formal SEND paperwork. This will clearly outline the strategies and interventions being used, the intended outcomes, and how progress will be tracked.
We offer a range of interventions across the school. These vary from year to year depending on the needs of our cohorts and may include:
Speech and language groups led by trained staff or external specialists
Reading and phonics support through targeted small-group work
Fine and gross motor skills programmes
Social and emotional well-being sessions such as friendship groups or emotion regulation support
Cognition and learning interventions including precision teaching and memory strategies
We work closely with families throughout this process, ensuring that communication remains open and that support at home complements the strategies in school.
By identifying needs early and offering timely, targeted interventions, we aim to give every child the best possible opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
