At St John’s, we believe a healthy, balanced lunch is an important part of every child’s day. Lunchtime is not only about enjoying nutritious food, but also about learning good habits, developing independence, and sharing the dining experience with friends.
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2: Since September 2014, all infant children have been entitled to a free hot school meal under the Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) scheme. This ensures every child can enjoy a healthy meal each day, at no cost to families.
All Year Groups: Following the Mayor of London’s initiative, from September 2023 all children across the school (Reception to Year 6) are entitled to receive a free school meal. We strongly encourage families to take up this offer so that children benefit from a freshly cooked hot lunch every day.
Even if your child is currently receiving free school meals through UIFSM, we ask all families who may be eligible for Pupil Premium to still apply. This extra funding directly supports your child’s learning and wellbeing.

On some occasions, such as school trips, we ask parents to provide a packed lunch from home. If your child is eligible for Pupil Premium free school meals, the school can provide a pre-made packed lunch from the kitchen instead.
