P.E. and Sports Premium

At St John’s School, we are fully committed to ensuring every child enjoys being active and develops a lifelong love of sport and physical activity. All pupils take part in regular physical activity at break and lunchtimes, enjoy at least two hours of timetabled PE each week, and have the opportunity to join a wide range of extracurricular clubs and activities.

Our Approach

We recognise the vital role that physical education plays in supporting the health and wellbeing of all our children. Our curriculum is inclusive and progressive, designed to build skills, confidence and teamwork year-on-year. Alongside curriculum lessons, we provide opportunities for children to explore different sports and activities, helping them find joy in moving, competing and working together.

PE and Sport Premium

The PE and Sport Premium is additional government funding allocated to schools to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision. At St John’s, we use this funding to:

  • Develop high-quality teaching in PE lessons

  • Provide a wide range of after-school sports clubs

  • Increase access to competitive sporting opportunities

  • Support play and active games during lunchtimes and breaks

Details of our PE and Sport Premium allocation and impact reports can be found at the bottom of this page.

Swimming

Swimming is an important life skill and part of the National Curriculum. Pupils in Years 2 and 3 take part in the Local Authority Swimming Programme, attending lessons at Southbury Leisure Centre for a 15-week block beginning after February half-term.

Competitive Sport

Although we are the smallest school in Enfield, we are proud of our strong sporting spirit. Children are encouraged to represent the school in a variety of competitive sports, including:

  • Football

  • Netball

  • Cross-country

  • Rounders

  • Cricket

  • Athletics

For several years, this commitment has been recognised through the Sainsbury’s School Games Mark, celebrating our success in encouraging participation and achievement in school sport.
