One of the highlights was cyanography, where pupils created striking blue‑toned images using light. Watching their pictures develop felt almost magical, and the children were fascinated by how science and art blended together.

They also stepped inside a planetarium, exploring stars, planets and galaxies in an immersive dome experience that left many of them wide‑eyed and full of questions.

Of course, no STEM Fair would be complete without the Tun

nock’s Teacake Challenge — a fan favourite. Year 5 were tasked with presenting a simple teacake as a restaurant‑worthy dessert. Creativity levels were sky‑high, but temperatures were too: by the end of the day, most teacakes had melted into… let’s call it “modern art”. The children found it hilarious and embraced the challenge with enthusiasm.

A key part of the event involved pupils presenting the STEM projects they have been working on this half-term. They spoke confidently to three different judges, explaining their ideas, processes and findings. Although they didn’t win this time, we were incredibly proud of their teamwork and communication throughout.

Despite the heat, the melted teacakes and the nerves of presenting, Year 5 had a fantastic day filled with learning, laughter and new experiences. It was a brilliant opportunity to celebrate their hard work and ignite even more curiosity for STEM.
