The whole school was buzzing with excitement this week as every class took part in a hands‑on sushi‑making workshop led by our school dinner company.
All four classes enjoyed their very own workshop, turning the hall into a lively hub of chopping, rolling and tasting. Each session was tailored to the age group, ensuring every child could get stuck in and learn new skills. From tiny chefs in the younger years to confident rollers in the older classes, pupils discovered the joy of creating their own delicious sushi — and even learnt a little about Japanese food culture along the way.

The children began by exploring the key ingredients — sticky rice, vegetables and seaweed sheets — before watching a demonstration from the chef. With sleeves rolled up and smiles all around, pupils then had the chance to create their own sushi rolls, carefully spreading, layering and rolling their ingredients with growing confidence.
Younger pupils focused on simple, colourful vegetable rolls, proudly showing off their creations to classmates and staff. Meanwhile, the older children were eager to take things a step further. Not only did they master more advanced rolling techniques, but they also had the opportunity to try wasabi, discovering its famously fiery kick. Reactions ranged from brave nods to wide‑eyed surprise, adding plenty of laughter to the day.

Throughout the workshops, children learnt about Japanese cuisine, healthy eating, and the importance of trying new foods. The chef praised the pupils for their enthusiasm, teamwork and creativity — and many children left inspired to recreate sushi at home.

The day was a wonderful celebration of food, culture and hands‑on learning, leaving the whole school with full hearts, happy faces and a newfound appreciation for the art of sushi making.
