St John’s have achieved footballing glory after being crowned ESFA Small Schools’ National Champions at the iconic Stoke City FC stadium — an unforgettable day for our incredible team and the entire school community.
A huge congratulations to Petar, Costa, Adom, Sebastian, Conor, Kayden, Denzell, Emmanuel, Isaac and Adrian.
The journey began with determination. After finishing runners‑up in the South‑East finals earlier this year, the team arrived in Stoke hungry to go one step further. They opened the tournament in style with a confident and commanding win, setting the tone for the day.
A tough second match followed, with strong opposition defeating us 4–2. But this setback only fuelled the team’s resolve. With a tactical reshuffle and a must‑win game ahead, St John’s stepped back onto the pitch with renewed focus and superb teamwork, securing a brilliant 3–0 victory. This result earned us a well‑deserved place in the semi‑finals as group runners‑up.
The semi‑final was a true test of character. After conceding an early goal, the boys showed exceptional resilience, battling back to claim a thrilling 2–1 win and book their place in the national final.

Back home in Enfield, the excitement was just as electric. Every classroom tuned in to watch, with children and staff gathered around screens to cheer on the team. The atmosphere across the school was buzzing — gasps, cheers and celebrations echoed through the corridors as St John’s battled their way to victory.
Even staff members who rarely shout at football couldn’t help themselves. It was a moment of pure community pride, shared by pupils, teachers and support staff alike.

In the final, fate paired us once again with St Vincent’s Catholic Primary School — the team who had beaten us in the South‑East final. But this time, the story was different. With passion, determination and outstanding skill, St John’s rose to the occasion, securing a magnificent 2–1 victory to lift the national trophy.
What an extraordinary achievement for our small school. A day of pride, perseverance and pure St John’s spirit. A huge thank you to Lily's Dad for arranging transport to Stoke City, the parents for attending the event with their child and also Mr. Law and Mr. Pople for great coaching throughout!
National Champions — and so well deserved.
