Ancient Rome comes alive!

Diamond Class travel back in time to ancient Rome!

Diamond Class enjoyed an exciting and immersive Roman Day, packed with hands‑on learning and historical exploration. The children began by diving into a range of non‑fiction texts, discovering what daily life was like for a Roman child. They completed a reading comprehension to deepen their understanding and loved comparing ancient routines with their own modern experiences. A huge thank you to all the parents who supported the day by providing — and in some cases even making — such brilliant costumes. The children looked incredible, and it added so much to the atmosphere of the day.

The class also learnt about Boudicca’s rebellion and explored what made the Roman army such a powerful force. Thanks to the enthusiasm in the room (and perhaps the fact that the Horrible Histories Boudicca song was stuck in everyone’s head all day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHMRLoJZ5JA), the children threw themselves into the activities with real energy. Using the shields they had created in Art, they worked together to recreate famous Roman formations, including the testudo (tortoise), rows and the wedge. Their teamwork was fantastic, and you can even watch a video of Diamond Class marching in formation — left, right, left, right — as well as see some of the amazing costumes in action.

To complete the experience, the children designed and made their own Roman mosaic tiles. Inspired by real Roman patterns, they carefully arranged their designs and took great pride in their finished pieces. The creativity on display was wonderful, and the children were excited to take home a piece of Roman history they had crafted themselves. It was a memorable day full of curiosity, collaboration and creativity, and Diamond Class rose to the occasion brilliantly.
