Caring for Creation

This week in RE, our Year 1 and Year 2 children in Sapphire Class spent time thinking deeply about what it means to care for God’s creation. We began by reflecting on the world around us—our planet, nature, animals, and one another—and talked about how Christians believe that God asks us to look after the world He has made.

To help us explore this idea, we worked in groups to sort a range of pictures showing different actions people can take. Some images showed choices that harm our world, such as pollution, littering or wasting water. Others showed positive, caring actions such as looking after animals, helping people in need, recycling, planting trees or keeping our environment clean.

The children discussed each picture thoughtfully, sharing ideas about why certain actions damage creation and how others protect and care for it. They were wonderfully articulate, explaining not just what the people in the pictures were doing, but how those choices impact the wider world.

Once each group had sorted their pictures into “caring for creation” or “harming creation,” we came back together and reflected on how our own everyday choices can make a difference. The children were quick to come up with ideas like turning off lights, picking up litter, being kind to others, reusing materials and appreciating the natural world around them.

It was a lovely lesson full of discussion, teamwork and thoughtful reflection. Sapphire Class showed a real understanding that caring for creation is both a responsibility and a way of showing love towards God, the world and each other.

We are very proud of the compassion and maturity they demonstrate. Well done, Sapphire Class!
