Each year, we honour the life, talent and creativity of Catriona by celebrating the joy of storytelling across our school. Our annual Catriona Fathers' Award is a very special tradition at St John’s: it encourages children to express their ideas boldly, play with language, and discover the power of their own imagination. We are always amazed by the unique voices that shine through.
This year, the book chosen to inspire the award was Journey by Aaron Becker – a beautiful, wordless story that invites children to dream, wonder and create whole worlds of their own. Using the images as a springboard, the children wrote their own imaginative pieces, bringing forests, adventures and magical red doors to life.
We are incredibly proud of every child who took part. Their writing showed creativity, bravery and a real sense of adventure.
We are delighted to announce our Catriona Fathers' Award Prizewinners for 2025...
Ruby: Gopika
Sapphire: Delphie and Charlotte
Diamond: Savannah and Bella
Emerald: Aevum and Kayden
Each winner impressed the judges with original ideas, thoughtful language and vivid descriptions that transported us straight into their magical landscapes.
Congratulations to all of our prizewinners!
Your writing will now be celebrated on Catriona’s permanent page of our school website, where families can enjoy reading your work and seeing your imaginations soar.
Thank you to all our young writers for making this year’s award such a joyful celebration of creativity.
We know Catriona would have loved the stories you created.
