What a joyful and busy start to the school year we’ve had at St John’s! As our new website goes live, it’s the perfect moment to look back and celebrate all that we’ve achieved together in this first half-term.
In Ruby Class, our youngest learners have been busy exploring through play, imagination and storytelling. They have enjoyed discovering new books, creating art inspired by their ideas, and building strong friendships as they learn and grow together. This first term has been all about getting to know each other and finding our place within the school, developing confidence and independence, and learning how to nurture friendships with love and kindness. We began the year as a completely new group, and much like the Hungry Caterpillar, we have gone through a wonderful moment of change, growing and transforming together.
Sapphire Class have made a wonderful start to the year, adapting brilliantly to their new routines and challenges. The Year 2 children have shown great maturity and independence, while the Year 1s have made a lasting impression on their teachers with their enthusiasm and determination. The Key Stage 1 team has led them with focus and care, ensuring purposeful learning takes place every day, supported by their lovely trainee teacher, Mrs Qayum, who has quickly become a much-loved member of the class.
In Diamond Class, pupils have loved exploring poetry through the Write 2 Speak project – writing and performing their own creative pieces with expression and pride. They also impressed us all with their thoughtful discussions during Hello Yellow Day, learning about wellbeing and supporting Young Minds.
Emerald Class have had a brilliant start to Upper Key Stage 2, working with visiting poet Paul Lyalls, who inspired everyone to find their voice through rhythm and rhyme. They’ve also been developing their role as role models across the school, showing leadership and kindness in all areas of school life.
Across the school, we’ve shared special community moments, from celebrating Harvest at St John’s Church to cheering on our football team, who have started the season with fantastic teamwork and determination.
It’s been a busy, happy and memorable Autumn 1. As we move into the next half-term, we’re excited to keep building on this great start and look forward to all the adventures that await.
