In Ruby Class, eating together is an important part of our day. Children enjoy tasty, healthy food while also learning skills that help them grow in confidence.
Our school lunches are freshly prepared by Stir Food and offer a variety of balanced and nutritious choices. Each morning, children select their lunch with staff support, and menus are available on the school website (click here) for families to view together at home.
The salad bar is open every day, giving children the chance to explore healthy options and try new foods. Lunchtime is also a social time: staff sit alongside children, modelling conversation, good manners, and respectful table habits.
Stir enriches the children’s experience with special sessions across the year such as cutlery skills workshops, pasta-making, and even sushi-making! These fun and practical activities make food an exciting part of learning.
Ruby Class runs a rolling snack table, where children choose when to enjoy their snack within the morning session. Families are asked to contribute £15 per term per child, which allows us to order a wide variety of healthy options from Sainsbury’s each week.
Children are fully involved in the process:
They help to choose next week’s snacks, building decision-making and responsibility.
They practise cutting and preparing the food, with adult support.
They use number models to make sure portions are fair, counting how many of each snack is allowed so that everyone has an equal share.
Adults are always present to model and support, so that snack time is calm, social, and a valuable part of the children’s learning.
In Ruby Class, food and mealtimes are an opportunity to learn, share, and grow together.
