Across the school, maths lessons follow the National Curriculum and are designed to build strong mental and written calculation strategies. Children are encouraged to calculate accurately and efficiently, while also applying their skills in real-life contexts. Regular investigative and problem-solving tasks invite pupils to think creatively and deepen their understanding.
A strong emphasis is placed on mathematical vocabulary. By practising and using precise terminology, children develop the confidence to explain their reasoning and tackle complex word problems. We aim not only to prepare pupils for everyday situations where maths is essential, but also to help them enjoy the subject and see its value.
Parents are an important part of this journey. Throughout the year, we run a variety of workshops and invite families into lessons to see our approaches in action. This shared understanding helps parents support learning at home. Fluency in times tables is given particular focus, as quick recall underpins many areas of mathematics and significantly boosts confidence.
