Early Years

Starting school is such a special milestone, and at St John’s we are proud to give children the very best start to their journey.

In Ruby Class, our Nursery and Reception children learn and play together in a caring, family-like atmosphere. The mix of ages works beautifully as younger children look up to older role models, while Reception pupils grow in confidence as they guide and encourage their younger friends.

Each day is full of opportunities to explore and discover, whether it is early phonics and maths, imaginative play, outdoor learning, art or storytelling. Our staff know every child deeply and plan carefully so that learning is purposeful, joyful and matched to their needs and interests.

Most importantly, we want children to feel happy, safe and excited about coming to school. From the very beginning, we nurture curiosity, independence and kindness, laying the strongest possible foundations for a lifelong love of learning.

From their very first days, Ruby Class children are fully involved in the life of St John’s. They take part in worship, attend whole-school celebrations and enjoy being alongside their older peers. This sense of belonging helps them feel part of our school family and builds their confidence as they grow.

Take a look through the rest of our Early Years pages to get a feel for Ruby Class, and please do come and see us in action. A visit is the best way to experience what makes our class so special, and we would be delighted to welcome you.
