Mental Health and Wellbeing

We believe that happy, confident children thrive. Supporting mental health and well-being is at the heart of our school. We are proud of our nurturing community, where children, families and staff feel cared for, listened to and encouraged to flourish.

How We Support Well-Being

Pastoral Care
Our school chaplain, Mother Mitzi, offers pastoral support for children, families and staff. She meets regularly with pupils and parents in the privacy of our school.

Whole-School Programmes
We are partnered with the PINS program (Partnership for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools), use Jigsaw (our PSHE and well-being curriculum) and our Parent Mentor scheme to help children develop resilience, manage emotions and build strong friendships.

Enrichment & Clubs
Over two-thirds of our pupils take part in after-school clubs such as music, sport, yoga and art. We actively encourage disadvantaged pupils to join clubs at no cost.

Reflection & Spirituality
Our Reflection Corner and Catriona’s Garden provide calm, reflective spaces for children to rest and reconnect. Spirituality is central to life at St John’s.

Pupil Voice
Through the School Council, children have a voice in shaping school life and well-being initiatives.

A Small and Nurturing Community

Because we are a small school, every child is truly known. This enables us to identify support early and respond quickly. Our high standards of care sit alongside our high expectations for learning, ensuring children thrive academically, emotionally and socially.

Accessing Support
  • Speak to Mother Mitzi about pastoral care for children, families or staff.

  • Talk to your child’s class teacher if you have concerns about behaviour, friendships or well-being.

At St John’s, we are committed to the highest standards of care. By working together, we create a safe, supportive and ambitious community where every child can shine.
