SEND

At St John’s, every child is valued, celebrated and supported to shine. Guided by our school vision to "shine like stars", we believe that all children have the right to an education that nurtures their strengths, builds their confidence and helps them reach their full potential.

Our approach to SEND is rooted in inclusion, care and high expectations. We are determined that every child, whatever their needs or circumstances, will succeed and thrive both academically and personally.

We work within the statutory guidance set out in the SEND Code of Practice (2015), the Children and Families Act (2014) and the Equality Act (2010). These frameworks ensure that our provision is effective, equitable and centred on the needs of each individual child.

Early identification is central to our approach. Through ongoing observation, assessment and close communication with families, we respond quickly to any emerging concerns. Support is planned using a graduated model of assess, plan, do, review so that provision is continually adapted and refined to help children make progress and experience success.

Our SENDCo, who is also the Headteacher, plays an active role in every child’s journey. This dual role means that our SEND provision is directly linked to whole-school priorities, and that each child’s progress is known, understood and celebrated at the highest level of leadership. Parents value the close relationships that develop from this, and the confidence of knowing that support is personal, consistent and responsive.

We are proud to be part of the Partnership for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools (PINS) project, which strengthens our commitment to creating an environment where neurodiverse learners, including those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia and other learning differences, can flourish and feel understood.

Our SEND provision is supported by teachers, teaching assistants and external professionals such as educational psychologists, speech and language therapists and the Enfield SEND team (EASA). Together we design personalised, evidence-based support that enables every child to grow in confidence, independence and joy for learning.

Parents and carers are our partners in this journey. We know that families hold invaluable insight into their children, and we work together to identify needs, set goals, review progress and celebrate achievements.
