Ruby's Winter Walk

Recently, Ruby Class wrapped up warm for a beautiful winter walk to our local Hilly Fields, but not before a very special stop at our school church, St John the Baptist.  The children were fascinated by the towering steeple, craning their necks to admire its incredible height.

As we made our way across the frosty ground, we explored the sparkling ice on the grass and leaves, noticing how the world looked just a little more magical in the cold. We were especially enchanted by a tree that the children lovingly nicknamed “the magical tree”, where we tried climbing the low branches.

We wandered all the way down the hill to the river, where we watched the water trickling through a mound of fallen leaves. But the most memorable part of our walk came next: the climb back up the VERY big hill. It was tough, and some of us found it harder than others, but Ruby Class showed their true spirit.

As the slower walkers worked their way up, the rest of the class called, “You can do it!” Some even burst into our Nativity favourite song, Donkey Plodding, singing the chorus to cheer their friends on. We certainly felt like donkeys plodding with weary bones, but we made it!

We’re so proud of the children’s perseverance, kindness and growing independence. As Ruby Class becomes more confident exploring the world beyond the classroom, we’re excited for many more adventures to come.
