Write2Speak – Finding Our Voice

Pupils in Diamond and Emerald Class (Year 3-6)  have been working with the wonderful Write2Speak team to explore spoken word poetry as a powerful tool for self-expression and wellbeing. Through workshops, rehearsals and creative discussions, children learned how poetry can help us share our feelings, build confidence and support our mental health.

Our teaching team also took part in professional training, gaining practical strategies to help embed spoken word as part of our wider wellbeing and English curriculum.

The project culminated in an incredible evening at the Dugdale Arts Centre, where pupils from Diamond Class performed their own spoken word pieces in front of a packed theatre. They spoke with pride, clarity and courage, truly showcasing our school values through their words and presence on stage. It was a moment we will all remember: seeing the children grow in confidence from sharing ideas in class, to practising in front of the whole school, and finally stepping onto a real stage to perform. Their journey showed just how powerful spoken word can be in helping young voices shine.

A special thank you to Miss Anderson, whose dedication, preparation and encouragement supported the children every step of the way, including accompanying them to the evening performance.

We are immensely proud of every pupil who took part. They found their voice, shared their stories, and reminded us all how creativity can strengthen wellbeing and bring a community together.
