Welcome to our Classroom
Hello and welcome to Emerald class, the oldest class in the school consisting of 27 year 5/6 children. Our timetable is action packed and full of creativity and challenge, delivered by the class teachers Miss Hill and Mr Law and their two able teaching assistants, Mrs Ramadan and Mrs Baskal. Each child is given extensive support to access the curriculum but is also encouraged to work independently.
Our PE days are on a Monday and Friday, but the children will also need their full PE kit on Tuesday for running club. The large majority of children in Emerald class play for one or more of the school teams with the following clubs taking place after school:
Wednesday-Netball: 3:15pm-4:10pm Thursday-Dance: 3:15pm-4:10pm
Spellings are given out on a Wednesday to be learnt through the week and over the weekend for a test on the following Wednesday morning. Homework will be given to the children on a Friday to be handed in no later than Wednesday the following week, so that it can be marked.
In reading, each child will be part of a reading group, reading the same text. It is crucial your child keeps up with their reading to ensure a purposeful discussion with their group the following day. Reading records need to be handed in daily and signed by a parent.
Children who are taking their times tables challenge, need to hand in their times tables booklets on a daily basis and any child who is working on the mental maths booklet must hand that in weekly.
We really appreciate everybody’s efforts in Emerald class and want to work together as a partnership to ensure each child has a broad, balanced, enjoyable and fun time. If ever you do have any queries, please pop in a see one of the members of staff and we will be more than willing to deal with any queries.
